Early Intervention ABA Programs for Young Children in Lawton

Applied Behavior Analysis, known as ABA, is one of the most effective therapies for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This therapy is scientifically backed and has been used since the 1960s. ABA is utilized in many different environments, including at school, at home, and in public, to help children understand their behaviors and the consequences of those behaviors. At Peak Behavioral Health, we provide an interdisciplinary approach, including ABA for children with Autism. We strongly believe in the success and benefits of early intervention in Autism Spectrum Disorder treatment. Read on to learn more about this therapy and how it can benefit your child’s development.

What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is used in a variety of settings but has been found to be especially helpful for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. ABA is a process where children learn how their behavior in different situations causes consequences. For example, a parent asks their child to clean up their room, they scream no, and then they get in trouble with their parent. The idea is to teach the child to reframe their behavior to get a positive consequence. An ABA therapist will teach the child a more appropriate way to respond. Any time the child exhibits positive behavior, they are rewarded with something that excites them, such as a toy, book, or video. If the child exhibits negative behavior, a therapist will often give the child no reaction. Gradually, children learn expected behaviors in a variety of situations across different environments. The key to success in ABA therapy is for the child to receive a lot of positive reinforcement, which will in turn shape their behavior.

Where Can I Find ABA Programs?

ABA therapy is done in many environments, including at school, at home, or in public places frequented by the child, such as a playground or library. At Peak Behavioral Health, we provide various Autism therapies at our Norman, Lawton, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City offices, but we also offer ABA therapy at home. By sending our therapists to your house, we can reinforce expected behaviors in the home while also modeling for parents and other family members how to successfully apply ABA concepts when the therapist is not present.

ABA Benefits of Early Intervention in Autism Spectrum Disorder Treatment

As with any Autism therapy, starting early is critical. Once your child has a diagnosis, it’s best to begin therapy immediately. In fact, some children are already doing various therapies before they even receive a diagnosis. Talk to your child’s pediatrician about when it is appropriate to start ABA therapy.

An Interdisciplinary Approach

The key to a successful Autism Spectrum Disorder therapy plan is an interdisciplinary approach. While ABA is a highly effective form of therapy, other services are needed, such as psychological evaluation, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. At Peak Behavioral Health, we can provide all of these services under one roof. Contact us today to learn more about our services and how to get an initial evaluation/assessment for your child.
